Woodland
The woodlands on Seven Acres Local Nature Reserve are an important habitat for various wildlife species, particularly birds and mammals. However, their presence on site is linked to their value in the past for industries including bleaching. Prior to this, the woodlands on Seven Acres will have been an important resource for people making charcoal, furniture and other various outputs from timber.
To explore how the woodlands on Seven Acres have been important for the local community in the past we visited the site with Sara Vernon, local archaeologist and member of Bolton Archaeological Group. To experience how people would have lived and used the woods on site in the past we went on a field trip to Middlewood Ecological Trust, Lancaster to participate in a weekend as a woodlander.
